Dancap Productions is bringing the Charlottetown Festival's Anne of Green Gables - The Musical to Toronto for a limited engagement starting Thursday May 7th, 2009 at the Elgin Theatre.  Canada's longest running musical is based on one of the most popular books of all time, Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery.  In connection with bringing this jewel to Toronto, Dancap has been working to promote literacy in the city with two very special events that took place over the past two weekends.

The first event took place on Saturday April 25th at the Lillian H. Smith Branch of the Toronto Library.  Entitled "Keep Toronto Reading" the event was designed to promote the upcoming musical as well as to educate people on the joy of reading. The show's Artistic Director Anne Allan led the event, talking openly with The Audience about the classic book and the musical.  Also in attendance was Musical Director Donald Fraser, and cast members Amy Wallis (Anne Shirley), Janet MacEwen (Marilla Cuthbert), Sandy Winsby (Matthew Cuthbert), and Charlotte Moore (Mrs. Lynde).  The event was extremely well received.  Children were able to sit up front on the floor, so that they had a fantastic view of the cast.  Selections from Anne of Green Gables - The Musical were performed and then the children and general audience had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the cast members.  The cast was extremely obliging and open when talking with the children, who were definitely getting excited about seeing the production.  The pieces that were performed were excellent, and provided a great sneak-peak at what can be expected at the Elgin Theatre starting tonight.

On May 2nd, a second literacy event took place at the Indigo Book Store in Toronto's Eaton Centre Mall.  The entire cast of Anne of Green Gables - The Musical paraded from the Elgin Theatre to the Indigo Bookstore in full costume, and then performed a few selections from the show and again were available to answer questions.  Following the performances there was a book signing with Kate Macdonald Butler (grand-daughter of Lucy Maud Montgomery) who was signing copies of the 100th Anniversary Edition of Anne of Green Gables.

These two events were a great way to get word out to the general public about the opening of Anne of Green Gables - The Musical, but perhaps more importantly, they allowed for fans of both the book and the musical to interact with the cast and get more familiar with a story that Canada holds so close to its heart.  Everyone involved did a superb job at keeping The Audience entertained and informed.

Anne of Green Gables - The Musical is only in Toronto for a short time before it heads back out to PEI for its season with the Charlottetown Festival.  Don't miss out on your chance to see this wonderful musical!

Tickets are on sale now and performances run from May 7th to May 24th, 2009 at the Elgin Theatre.  Tickets start as low as $25 and can be purchased online at www.dancaptickets.com or by phone at 416-644-3665.  For  more information please visit Dancap's official website at www.dancaptickets.com
