A MICKEY FULL OF MOUSE: New Play Hearkens Back to Mid Seventies

By:

A group of indie theatre artists from across Canada have congregated in Toronto to produce and stage a new play by WIFT member and award winning actor Dawna Wightman. A MICKEY FULL OF MOUSE is a fast - paced drama, following two women as they stumble through an enchanted trip in a vexed snow globe. Through using light-hearted theatrical magic the play, set in the seventies, takes on time-tested friendship and the treatment of special needs people.

Originally from Montreal, Dawna Wightman is thrilled to be working with director Rory Starkman, moving from Charlottetown, and Toronto's Louise Lupo co-producing & playing the lead. Award winning sound designer David Mesiha has composed original orchestral scores & intriguing sound files for the show.

These artists have been pushing the new play from workshop to preview to premiere. Each of this team's work focuses on alterNative Theatre, deep emotional involvement and building a new stage based on a mass media centered audience. Rory Starkman brings youth and freshness. Louise Lupo adds a leading actor roundedness. Dawna Wightman plays three characters with her signature intensity and cadence.

Wightman is ecstatic:

"We're putting fearless work on stage. Head, hands, heart, hips. We know this is going to be one of the most exciting new plays to date. Globally? Yes. Set designers are pitching in, professional photographers, journalists - even Genie award winning documentary film maker Kalli Paakspuu, who is working on developing a new doc based on the friendship between Wightman & Margaret Ennis. We're honored to be part of this dedicated community. We look forward to shaping a story that changes the molecules in the theatre - taking audiences on a journey that matches the height of their imaginations."

Director Rory Starkman: "For me, I'm super excited because we all have a vision to produce theatre for the benefit of humanity. The story is captivating. You don't see actors taking on multiple roles anymore. This story celebrates our differences, doesn't condemn them."

Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is an established downtown Toronto theatre. A Mickey Full of Mouse has rented this venue.
