Exciting New Art Exhibit at Fred Kavli Theatre Gallery

Residents of the Conejo Valley and surrounding areas are invited to an Artists Reception for "ExtraCurricular," the lauded art show currently on view in the Fred Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The reception is scheduled for Sunday, August 21 from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Kavli Theatre lobby, located at 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevard in downtown Thousand Oaks.

Presented by the City of Thousand Oaks Cultural Affairs Commission, the exhibition features the works of Southern California artists Phyllis J. Doyon, Ann Krasner, and Daniela Schweitzer and runs through September 2 in the Fred Kavli Theatre Gallery. "ExtraCurricular" features 40 fine art selections, portrayed in media ranging from acrylic and oil paintings to watercolors and mixed media.

Phyllis J. Doyon: A popular demonstrator, juror, and workshop teacher, Phyllis works throughout California and Nevada. She has had more than 40 solo shows; her paintings have been winners at numerous exhibitions throughout the U.S. Her work is also in collections in England, Canada, France, Mexico, and Greece. Phyllis is a Board Member of the National Watercolor Society, where she serves as the fourth Vice President-Publicity. "I have always loved to work with watercolor and water media, enjoying the vibrant colors and flow of the paint. Committing to bold color early in the painting keeps the work clean and transparent. This is what gives watercolor its sparkle and life."

Ann Krasner: "In my paintings I show the world of common things surrounding us; scenes of everyday life; the beauty of simplicity. I enjoy bringing together exuberant colors and careering sensibility, humor, and sadness. I like sending my people, buildings, flowers, and even clouds across the landscape in a capricious dance that is full of a wild and willful joy. I simply like to see people smile when they are studying my work for the first time or better wish to join the dance and walk inside the picture. I attempt to create more than a visual experience. The art creates its own populated world which makes everyone experience the extraordinary delight, the passion and warmth. "

Daniela Schweitzer: "People, human gestures, and the simple beauty of everyday events inspire me to paint. Slight movements of an otherwise ordinary person's or people's daily interactions and experiences that may go unnoticed to others catch my eye. As an artist born in Argentina, a local resident, and an avid traveler, I am drawn to diverse scenes and people of many different cultures­-this inspires me to paint! As I am a classically trained artist, my current work involves mostly figurative abstract pieces. "
