Edward Albee's
THE GOAT OR, WHO IS SYLVIA?
Directed by Mitchell Butel
“What have you done!?”
Claudia Karvan (Bump, Love My Way) takes the stage for the first time in 25 years, alongside screen star Don Hany (Offspring, East West 101), in this electric, jaw-dropping, Tony Award-winning comedy from one of theatre’s darkest satirists, Edward Albee.
From the outside, Stevie and her husband Martin have the perfect middle-class marriage: a comfortable well-appointed home, a son they love and support, a little fame and notoriety for Martin’s work as an architect and – so they report – a healthy sex life.
But on the day he is to be honoured in a documentary about his work, Martin drops a bomb. He’s been fooling around with someone else – well…something else – and Stevie’s world immediately crumbles around her.
Edward Albee is considered by many to be the greatest American playwright of his generation and is the genius behind Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Here, he combines acerbic comedy, his feather-ruffling taste for the profane, and his signature sense for all our petty foibles in this explosive night of acting.
Directed by STCSA Artistic Director Mitchell Butel, The Goat or, Who Is Sylvia? is a ruthless and provocative dark comedy of manners that will leave every audience member agog, scandalised, and astonished.
