I (DON’T) WANT TO BELIEVE
Frenemies Cat (Stephanie Somerville, Stolen) and Mish (Courtney Ally Miller, Home and Away) decide to explore their spirituality in their Catholic college’s lonely chapel, but it’s not the holy spirit they plan to get high on. As they prepare for the ‘trip’ of their university lifetimes, news of their mutual friend’s sudden dropout sparks a concerning mystery: who spiked Daisy’s drink last night?
Both horror and humour, Holy Hell is a slow and surreal descent into the inferno of our beliefs in the things around us: long-established institutions, the big man upstairs, the very fabric of reality. How do you discern what the truth is when you don’t know what you believe? Religious iconography, drinking games and witchy business keep all of us awake way past our bedtimes.
A WORLD PREMIERE
Written by Bianca Watkins
Directed by Dakotah Love
With Stephanie Somerville, Courtney Ally Miller, Riley Thomas and Owen Hasluck
Selected for KXT’s Storytellers Festival 2025 and written by emerging playwright and producer Bianca Watkins (In Cosmic Utero, Gia Ophelia) Holy Hell is the debut production for new company Bloodline Productions, and directorial debut for Dakotah Love.
University colleges are renowned for their wild nights, hazing rituals and strange stories. Bianca Watkin's Holy Hell, presented by Bloodline Productions, explores the complexities of the elite and untouchable institutions that form the backbone of these experiences. I was able to chat with Bianca herself and the cast of Holy Hell as their season opens at Old Fitz in late July.
