A Place in the Sultan's Kitchen (or How to Make the Perfect One-Pot Chicken Curry) at Studio, Sydney Opera House

A multi-sensory journey of ancestral discovery by Sydney-born, Wollongong-raised theatre-maker Joshua Hinton, created and performed with his brother Dominic. Blending storytelling, music and live cooking, the show traces Hinton's heritage across Persian, Indian, South African, Jewish and Bahá'í threads. Drawing on his family's long-running Indian restaurant in Brisbane, Hinton cooks his grandmother's chicken curry recipe live on stage each night, with audiences invited to share a bowl as they leave. The work reflects on migration, identity and the power of shared meals and storytelling across cultures.
