The Australian Ballet to Kick Off World Ballet Day LIVE on 1 October
World-class ballet live streamed free, as The Australian Ballet kicks off World Ballet Day LIVE and 23 hours of vision inside some of the world's leading ballet companies, starting 12pm EST, 1 October 2015
From bush to beach and cape to cape, Australian audiences can visit the studios of their national dance company from wherever they are during the second ever World Ballet Day LIVE. Once again The Australian Ballet kicks off the 23-hour live stream at 12pm EST on Thursday 1 October 2015.
For five hours anyone with an internet connection can go behind the scenes and watch dancers in their daily class, see rehearsals for upcoming shows and visit the magical wardrobe department. This rare glimpse into the world beyond the spotlight can be accessed by all at worldballetday.com.
World Ballet Day LIVE is a collaboration with five of the world's leading ballet companies: The Australian Ballet Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and San Francisco Ballet. Appearing in guest spots during The Australian Ballet's stream will be esteemed fellow dance companies Bangarra Dance Theatre, the Royal New Zealand Ballet, and the National Ballet of China.

The first World Ballet Day LIVE was held on 1 October 2014. The live broadcast attracted a total of 502,823 views from dance lovers around the world who watched for an average of 27 minutes. Allowing unparalleled, behind-the-scenes access, the streaming project revealed each company's approach to company class and rehearsals, illustrating the unique personalities that characterise five world-class companies. As the first event of its kind, the 20-hour streaming project garnered critical and viewer acclaim with the New York Times declaring it an "unprecedented bout of internationalism" and the Toronto Star calling it a "milestone event."
