Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic 'THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA' is one of the most successful pieces of theatre and entertainment of all time and continues to captivate audiences all over the world. The first Swedish production in the late 80's was a huge success so this revival was very anticipated by the old and the new generations of Swedish theatre-goers. I heard someone in the audience say that it was like visiting an old friend after almost 30 years.

Santtu-Matias Rouvali is set to become Chief Conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony, the National Orchestra of Sweden. The 30-year old, recently hailed by the Guardian (London) as "the latest sit-up-and-listen talent to emerge from the great Finnish conducting tradition", will take up his new position at the beginning of the 2017-18 season. His appointment underlines the special relationship forged between conductor and orchestra in August 2014 with Rouvali's debut programme of works by Richard Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Bernstein. Critical acclaim has followed their subsequent performances together, with Hakan Dahl of Goteborgs-Posten praising Rouvali as 'absolutely superb' (October 2015).

KRISTINA FROM DUVEMÅLA (Kristina fran Duvemala) is a musical based on the four Emigrants novels by Swedish writer Vilhelm Moberg. Struggling to survive with multiple children, growing depts, failing crops, KRISTINA FROM DUVEMÅLA tells the story of the nearly starved Kristina (Maria Ylipaa), her husband Karl-Oskar (Robert Noack) and his brother Robert (Oskar Nilsson) must flee on a crowded boat full of migrants from the poverty and oppression in mid-19th century's Sweden, migrating to Minnesota, USA. But the 'New Land' is not all bliss and roses. A devastated Kristina never grows to like America and lies awake at night, tormented by her longing for her home country, and begs God to let her return one day. She is the perfect example of an unhappy immigrant.
