When you join our department as a theater major, you partner with a rich tradition of theatre students and professors who have been working as artist/scholars in the field of theatre. Working within the framework of theatre as a liberal art, our students focus on performance, theatrical design/technology, theatre history, dramatic literature and theory — and combine these skills within our generalist B.A. major. Working with faculty who are both scholars and professional directors and designers, our students have gone onto work in the professional theatre, professional graduate training programs in theatre, teaching, and into many different communications-related fields. Theatre majors have an opportunity to enter their work and attend the Region 1 Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival, in areas from acting, playwriting, design, stage management, and dramaturgy, just to name a few. Our department also provides many opportunities for all students to perform, design, and write about theatre in addition to working on the full theatrical productions in our academic season and to participate in student organization projects. So come join us as a theatre major or minor, or come work on one of our productions, and be a part of the SUNY Plattsburgh Theatre tradition! Notable Alumni Include: Margaret Swick, Jen Byrne, Philip DeLorenzo, Rosanne Murat, Katie Barry, Athena Castro, Teruyuki Ichihara, Shauna Ackerman, Adam Soule.
