Welcome to the East Texas A&M University Department of Music! For more than a century, the Department of Music has provided students with a rigorous academic experience which fosters intellectual curiosity, creativity, and aesthetic awareness while refining and expanding skill development through performing, teaching, conducting and composing music. With over 300 music majors, the Department of Music is large enough to offer top-notch performing experiences, yet small enough to ensure that music classes are taught by actual professors, not graduate students. The Department of Music offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music Education and Performance. As a music major at East Texas A&M University-Commerce you’ll have many opportunities to participate in studio recitals and master classes with your studio professor and with nationally recognized guest musicians. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Chorale or University Singers. Placement in these ensembles is determined by auditions held at the beginning of each semester. Participation in these ensembles is also open to non-music majors by audition and we welcome students, regardless of major, to join us! We are pleased to offer a wide variety of scholarships, which are awarded based on talent, scholarly preparation, departmental need, and/or ensemble participation. Graduate assistantships and scholarship awards are also available to graduate students who qualify.
