Shakespeare Festival St. Louis Announces 2018 Education Tour

Missouri students will learn a bit more of the Bard's take on identity and difference, issues people have grappled with no matter the genre, culture or century, and all part of the 2018 Shakespeare Festival St. Louis award-winning Education Tour, now through April 15. The tour includes more than 150 performances and workshops conducted at 50 schools throughout the metro area and rural Missouri.
New Line Theatre Announces Wild Lineup for Upcoming Season

New Line Theatre, "the bad boy of musical theatre," announces its 28th season of adult, alternative musical theatre, including the world premiere of THE ZOMBIES OF PENZANCE, Gilbert & Sullivan's newly discovered, original 'operatic abomination,' in its first ever production, running Sept. 27-Oct. 20, 2018; followed by the 'family values' classic musical LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, running Feb. 28-March 23, 2019; and to close the season, the St. Louis premiere of the new sci-fi rock musical BE MORE CHILL, based on the bestselling novel, running May 30-June 22, 2019. All New Line's mainstage shows will be in the company's home, the Marcelle Theater, in the Grand Center Arts District.

Tim Ocel will direct the production for this year's Festival titled, "Tennessee Williams: The French Quarter Years."

Arts and Education Council Seeks Submissions for Second Annual Startup Competition for Arts

The Arts and Education Council (A&E) announced today that applications are now open for the second annual stARTup Competition for arts entrepreneurs. The competition and program is supported by A&E and the PNC Foundation to foster breakthrough, entrepreneurial ideas on changing the fabric of St. Louis through the arts. The stARTup Competition is one of only two of its kind in the country, along with MIT's Creative Arts Competition. A&E and the PNC Foundation have earmarked $20,000 for the competition.

The Arts and Education Council (A&E) announced today that C. Brendan Johnson, partner at Bryan Cave, LLP, has been elected as the nonprofit's new board chair. Johnson previously served as A&E board vice chair since 2016. A&E also announced six new board members: Mark C. Anderson, president, MCA Consulting; Sara Burke, founder, The City Studio Dance Center; Ken Haller, M.D., professor of pediatrics, Saint Louis University; Gordon Myers, senior vice president, U.S. Bank; Kit Sundararaman, principal, Edward Jones; and Paul Ziegler, J.D., executive director, EducationPlus.

Shakespeare Festival St. Louis will be adding a fourth pillar - In the Works - to its In the Schools, In the Streets, In the Park programming, enhancing its appeal as a year-round festival, it was announced today. In the Works, a month-long ticketed event, scheduled for late fall at the Grandel Theatre, will culminate the 2018 season that includes the Education Tour (Feb. 5-April 15), SHAKE 38 (April 18-22), the main stage production of "Romeo & Juliet" (June 1-24) and Shakespeare in the Streets' production of "Blow, Winds," (June 15-16).

alt-J announces a headlining tour of North America starting on April 7 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO. The tour includes festival stops at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Firefly and Mountain Jam. A show at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY will mark the largest venue the band has headlined in North America. That show will also feature a surround speaker system, using immersive hyperrealism technology, to envelope the entire audience in an incredible surround sound experience.
