Webster University presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Webster University's Conservatory of Theatre Arts presents "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin. The production runs from Dec. 1-5 and Dec. 8-12, in Stage III, Webster Hall, 470 E. Lockwood Ave. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m., except Sundays, which will have a 2 p.m. matinee only. "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" is a hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six fidgety adolescents attempting to correctly spell "pyrrhonism" while vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. As they compete, two teachers and "comfort counselor" try to deal with them. Along the way the students learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a "loser."The show's Tony Award-winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.
