The Sheldon Gala 2010 To Include Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

By: Feb. 19, 2010

The Sheldon Gala 2010 welcomes the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall. This very special evening, co-chaired by Barbara and David Gifford and Jerry and Mary Beth Daniels, benefits The Sheldon's 2009-2010 season of concerts, exhibits and educational programs. The annual event will pay tribute to Jerry and Peggy Ritter.

Band leader of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis has been credited with revitalizing jazz as an art form, bringing it into the new century as an American institution. Today's most honored jazz musician, composer and educator, Marsalis has over 30 jazz albums, nine Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize to his credit. His groundbreaking compositions have changed the face of jazz, combining the rhythms, harmonies and melodies of jazz, blues, gospel, Afro-Cuban and classical music, fusing the traditional with the modern.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, comprising 15 of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players today, has been the Jazz at Lincoln Center resident orchestra for over 14 years. Featured in all aspects of Jazz at Lincoln Center's programming, this remarkably versatile orchestra performs and leads educational events in New York, across the U.S. and around the globe.

Gala tickets start at $500, and include complimentary valet parking, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, preferred orchestra seating, dinner and dancing, and a tax deduction. Call The Sheldon at 314.533.9900 to purchase patron tickets.
