RACE Continues The Rep's 45th Season

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) presents the powerful play Race by David Mamet. This suspenseful drama will be performed on the Browning Mainstage of the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts, 130 Edgar Road (on the campus of Webster University), Webster Groves, February 8 – March 4, 2012.

Curtain times are Tuesday at 7 pm; Wednesday–Friday at 8 pm; selected Wednesday matinees at 1:30 pm; Saturday matinees at 5 pm; selected Saturday nights at 9 pm; Sunday matinees at 2 pm; and selected Sunday evenings at 7 pm.

Shame, guilt, class, lies and sex all explode to the surface in Pulitzer Prize-winner David Mamet's newest play where cases–and people–are never just black and white. When high-profile attorneys Jack Lawson and Henry Brown find themselves defending a privilegEd White executive accused of raping a young black woman, facts quickly become secondary to underlying agendas. Along with their new paralegal, Susan, the two men review the facts of the case and begin finding out more than they bargained for, both about the job and themselves. Race poses blunt questions with provocative language that will leave everyone talking long after the lights go down.

In an article in The New York Times, Mamet said, "It is a play about lies. Race, like sex, is a subject on which it is near impossible to tell the truth. In each, desire, self-interest and self-image make the truth inconvenient to share not only with strangers (who may, legitimately or not, be viewed as opponents) but also with members of one's own group, and, indeed, with oneself."

The original stage presentation of Race was produced at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in December 2009.

The Rep's production of Race is directed by Timothy Near (The Glass Menagerie).

The cast of Race at The Rep is Zoey Martinson as Susan; Morocco Omari as Henry; Jeff Talbott as Jack (last seen in A Christmas Story) and Mark Elliot Wilson as Charles.
