New Adaptation of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Continues Plays The Rep

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (The Rep) presents The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Laura Eason, adapted from the novel by Mark Twain. This fresh new version of the classic tale will be performed on the Browning Mainstage of the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts, 130 Edgar Road (on the campus of Webster University), Webster Groves, November 30 - December 23, 2011.

Curtain times are Tuesday at 7 pm; Wednesday-Friday at 8 pm; selected Wednesday matinees at 1:30 pm; Saturday matinees at 5 pm; selected Saturday nights at 9 pm; Sunday matinees at 2 pm; and selected Sunday evenings at 7 pm. Due to the holiday an additional matinee performance has been added on Friday, December 23 at 2 pm.

Reconnect with Mark Twain's incomparable classic in a magical new production, perfect for the whole family. In idyllic 1840s Missouri, Tom and his friends revel in all that is grand and glorious in childhood. This mischievous rascal can charm his Aunt Polly, save the town from Injun Joe and win the heart of fair Becky Thatcher, all in the course of one small-town day. Filled with Mark Twain's wit, lots of heart and great joy, this new adaptation is filled with unbridled enthusiasm, physicality and fun, as well as depth and meaning.

This spirited version of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was originally commissioned and produced by Hartford State in Hartford, Connecticut in 2010. Ms. Eason, a longtime member of a very unique ensemble in Chicago, as well as a skilled adaptor and playwright, brings her varied experiences to life in this new play. She described her intentions in a recent interview: "I am an ensemble member of a company in Chicago called Lookingglass Theatre Company...that aesthetic is very visual and very physical and has a real strong sense of playfulness and explosion and joy. That essence, I definitely applied to my adaptation of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."

The cast of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer at The Rep is Joseph Adams as Muff Potter and Ensemble, Justin Fuller as Joe Harper and Ensemble, Tim McKiernan as Tom Sawyer, Michael D. Nichols as Injun Joe and Ensemble, Robbie Tann as Huckleberry Finn and Ensemble, Hayley Treider as Becky Thatcher, Nate Trinrud as Sid, Doc Robinson and Ensemble, and Nance Williamson as Aunt Polly and Ensemble.
