The Polish National Ballet was established on 29 April 2009 by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bogdan Zdrojewski upon a motion from the General Director of the Grand Theatre ? National Opera, Waldemar D?browski.
Krzysztof Pastor is the current director of the Polish National Ballet.
Bach in four movements
One composer, four works, and four choreographers: Bach Dances looks at four ways of converting into movement the works of a musician who has fascinated the world of dance more than virtually any other. The solutions range from the outburst of energy proposed by Emil Weso?owski for the Harpsichord concerto in D minor, to the Baroque interplay of light and shadow sketched by Krzysztof Pastor for the Goldberg Variations and the Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major. Ed Wubbe chooses a piece from the Saint John Passion to express the vulnerability of human beings, while George Balanchine finds inspiration in the Double Violin Concerto in D minor for his idea of pure dance. This show would be a veritable tour de force of virtuosity and versatility for any dance troupe.
Though its roots of go back to the 18th century, it was not until the 21st century, when Krzysztof Pastor took over as director, that the Polish National Ballet achieved artistic plenitude and autonomy, forging a style of its own which is an elegant blend of tradition and modernity.
