USC Dance Students Premiere Original Works at Drayton Hall Theatre, 12/5-8 The University of SC Dance Program will premiere original works by university dance artists during its Student Choreography Showcase, December 5-8 at Drayton Hall Theatre.

Show times are 7:30pm nightly. Tickets for the concert are $15 for students, $20 for UofSC Faculty/Staff, Military and Seniors, and $22 for the general public. Tickets may be reserved in advance beginning November 28 by calling 803-777-2551, or purchasing in person at the main box office, located at Longstreet Theatre (1300 Greene St.). Longstreet box office hours are 12:30 - 5:30pm, Monday - Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at the door in advance of the performance each evening. Drayton Hall Theatre is located at 1214 College St, across from the historic UofSC Horseshoe.

The semi-annual showcase of original student choreography is once again being directed by UofSC dance instructor Cindy Flach, and will include a variety of choreographic styles and themes. A sampling of works to be performed includes:

  • Kashmir by Abbey McCoy, a contemporary pointe work performed to the classic Led Zeppelin song;
  • Counter by Madison Estridge, which examines social norms ingrained in daily life; and,
  • Nostalgia by Imani Trotman, a work reminiscent of European style, inspired by Trotman's recent study abroad experience.

In total, 12 original works by student choreographers will be performed during the concert. The works were chosen after being adjudicated by faculty from the dance program.
