Shakespeare Rep has announced preliminary casting for its upcoming production of MACBETH. Chicago-based actor Santiago Sosa has been selected for the leading role. Artistic Director Debra Charlton states, "We are thrilled to have a classical performer of Santiago Sosa's experience and talent for this demanding role. The part of Macbeth requires an actor who possesses keen sensitivity to the complexities of the verse, emotional range, charisma and athleticism. Santiago Sosa is the ideal person for the job."

Raised in Ecuador, Sosa moved to the United States in 1996. He earned an MFA in Acting from the University of Wisconsin, and has since worked at many of the nation's leading classical theatres, including Pennsylvania Shakespeare Company, Illinois Shakespeare, Muse of Fire Shakespeare Company, American Players Theatre and Door Shakespeare. He has played a wide range of roles from the classical repertoire, including Mercutio, Malvolio, Don Pedro and Proteus. He recently concluded a stint as a Teaching Artist at the world renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

MACBETH opens April 23. The run coincides with global celebrations of William Shakespeare's 450th birthday.
