WEST SIDE STORY to Pkay Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts, 6/17-27

By: Jun. 09, 2015

From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals of all time. The world's greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Broadway musical that is one of the theatre's finest accomplishments. You can experience this Tony Award-winning Broadway classic at the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts June 17-27.

Arthur Laurents' book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is widely regarded as one of the best ever written. You will find yourself singing "When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way..." all the way home, and "I feel pretty, oh, so pretty..." will dance through your head and bring a smile to your lips.

Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the "American" Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative and heart-wrenching musical dramas of our time - as relevant today as it was when it premiered on Broadway in 1957.

Tickets are on sale right now at Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts or can be purchased online at wagonwheelcenter.org. The cost of admission is $32 for adults, $24 for seniors, $18 for students and $14 for children up to age 12. Call the box office at 574-267-8041 with any questions. The show premieres June 17 and runs through June 27. Times vary based on day. Presented by Alderfer Bergen and Company.
