Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival to Present HENRY IV, 8/19-31

By: Aug. 05, 2014

This summer, as the world celebrates the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare, the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival celebrates two dates of their own - the 150th anniversary of the first full Shakespeare play produced on campus and the 15th season of the Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival (NDSF). "We're honoring our 1864 kinsmen by producing Henry IV, the same title performed by Notre Dame 150 years ago," says Grant Mudge, Ryan Producing Artistic Director for the Festival. A tale of rebels and rebellion, Henry IV explores the journey of a prodigal prince torn between two fathers - an ailing king and an errant knave.

Henry IV, William Shakespeare's original game of thrones, will be presented live on stage by NDSF August 19 through 31 at the University of Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. The Goodman Theatre's Resident Artistic Associate, Henry Godinez, will perform the title role. Joining King Henry will be many of Chicago's finest actors including Jeff Award-winning actress Peggy Roeder as Mistress Quickly, NDSF alum John Lister as Sir John Falstaff, Neal Moeller as Prince Harry, and William Dick as Justice Shallow. Members of Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival's Young Company, which is comprised of students from the University of Notre Dame, St. Mary's College, Brandeis University, Butler University, the University of Illinois, Indiana University South Bend, Indiana University Bloomington, Northwestern, and Purdue University, fill out the cast. Michael Goldberg directs.
