Civic Theatre Offers Inclusive Performance of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT Image

Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre will offer an inclusive performance of its Mainstage Holiday Show, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, on Saturday January 6, 2018 at 2PM.

In 2014, Civic Theatre offered the first inclusive production in the state of Indiana. Since then, its annual performances of Dr. Seuss'S THE CAT IN THE HAT have provided opportunities to attend live theatre to audiences of all abilities. This season, Civic is proud to offer an inclusive performance, in the form of a popular Mainstage show for the first time. Simply put, an inclusive performance ensures theatre access in a comfortable, judgement-free setting to all members of our community. This is achieved through accommodations for sensory sensitivities, mobility issues, and other special needs. Making slight modifications to the production will help make the experience accessible for audience members with sensory differences.

Some elements include keeping the house lights up, adjusting overwhelming sound effects, adjusting house rules to allow for talking and moving, additional seating options for those with mobility devices, and an American Sign Language interpreter upon request. These adjustments provide an open, welcoming, and safe environment for everyone to enjoy live theatre. In this setting, responding, moving, speaking, or self-soothing is appropriate so that all may enjoy and experience the performance comfortably.

JOSEPH & AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT runs December 15, 2017-January 7, 2018. It is the ninth installment at Civic since 2000. One of the most enduring shows of all time, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. Told entirely through song with the help of a narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph throughout his trials and triumph. Single and group tickets are available for this holiday spectacular. Visit www.civictheatre.org for more information and to reserve tickets.
