The Long Shots

The Long Shots will return to the Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre once again this September, bringing audiences their reliably hilarious brand of improvised comedy. The Long Shots are Rob Coutts, Eva Gilliam, Tamith Hattingh, Pags Bantwana, Mark Penwill, Justine Beukes and Steve Larter.

Using an audience suggestion as a starting point, the troupe will create improvised scenes right on the spot, making up characters, dialogue and environments as they go along. Nothing is planned, there is no script, and no one knows what is going to happen. A night with the Long Shots is the theatrical equivalent of a tightrope walk - with no net!

The Long Shots have been growing the local improv scene since their inception in 2011 with a variety of classes, workshops and jams throughout the year. They perform every Monday night at the Armchair Theatre, a comedy hub in Observatory. They also hold a drop-in class every Thursday from 19:30 to 21:30 where absolutely anyone can try their hand at improvised comedy! Always taking their cue from a 'what if?' angle on life, The Long Shots aim to make Cape Town a place where 'yes... and!' becomes the leading paradigm.

The Long Shots perform at the Alexander Upstairs from 15 - 16 September at 19:00 nightly. Tickets are available from the Alexander Bar website, with seats costing R80 if booked and prepaid online or R90 if paid on collection at the bar. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652. The Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
