AT THE EDGE OF THE LIGHT Comes to Alexander Upstairs

Hurtling through the drenched night, Girl finds herself at the threshold of the last safe place she knows, hoping to find solace in the grandmother she remembers from her childhood. Instead, Gran has shut herself away, scared of the noises in the dark, suspicious of the knocks on the door and terrified of the things that lie just at the edge of the light.

Fresh from its run on the Main Programme at the 2018 National Arts Festival,At the Edge of the Light will linger with you far beyond the curtain call. The production has been given 4 stars and described as 'nuanced', 'powerful' and 'a salutary experience and noteworthy theatre' (Beverley Brommert, Cape Argus), and 'a terrific, suspenseful yarn' (Brett Adkins, The Herald).

Writer and director Wynne Bredenkamp is a UCT graduate with distinction in a BA in Theatre Making and Performance. Co-winner of the Most Promising Student Writer Award from the NAF during her final year, she has gone on to create and produce her own work. She has won a Standard Bank Ovation Award at NAF for her first professional production, Salt, as well as a PANSA New Writing Award. Her personal portfolio includes Warrior Green, a post-apocalyptic tale of young eco-warriors for children, and At The Edge of the Light, first created under the Theatre Arts Admin Emerging Director's Bursary and the mentorship of Tossie Von Tonder.
