Discover the ancient Javanese courtly music traditions of the Mangkunegaran Royal Palace through ceremonial gamelan music. The Soerya Soemirat Art Center presents the 18th century composition of Gendhing Anglir Mendhung in its original form, inspired by Javanese ruler Raden Mas Said’s struggle against the Dutch soldiers in 1752.
Special thanks to the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, National University of Singapore for the loan of their gamelan set for these performances.
