What if Hitler were Jekyll and Hyde?

The Finger Players presents "STARRING HITLER AS JEKYLL AND HYDE", a modern retelling of history for today's world that contains xenophobia, art, politics and discrimination.

History and fiction collide in STARRING HITLER AS JEKYLL AND HYDE. Borrowing characters and themes from literary classic - Jekyll and Hyde, the history of Jewish holocaust is retold in a new tale about Jekyll, a young painter by day, who turns into Hitler by night. Hitler terrorizes the populace, subjecting them to his will. Meanwhile, Jekyll the young painter rises in stature and wealth as his alter-ego coerces the population into building galleries and museums, and commissioning artworks to pay homage to. As the country enters the dark ages, a police inspector is tasked to uncover the true identity of Hitler and stop his killings.

First staged in 2014 to critical acclaim, STARRING HITLER AS JEKYLL AND HYDE is a modern parable about the rise and return of fundamentalism and fanaticism in today's world. Featuring a stellar cast, Chong Tze Chien's explosive play bristles with hard hitting truths and resonance.

STARRING HITLER AS JEKYLL AND HYDE will be performed by Daniel York (THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, Wildrice), Edith Podesta (DARK ROOM, Esplanade), Lian Sutton (LORD OF THE FLIES, Sight Lines/Blank Space Theatre), Julius Foo (VERSUS, Cake Theatrical Productions), Jo Kukathas (Romeo & Juliet, Singapore Repertory Theatre) and Joshua Lim (OFF CENTRE, The Finger Players).

The cult of personalities on the world political stage, and the rise of xenophobia around the world have uncanny similarities with circumstances that led to the rise of Hitler and Nazism in 1930s Germany, and the Jewish holocaust thereafter during World War Two. Way back in 2014, the antagonisms against new immigrants hit local headlines; the prevailing mood and concerns prompted Tze Chien to write a new play "STARRING HITLER AS JEKYLL AND HYDE", which alludes to the tension between locals and foreigner by collapsing history and fiction. The play was staged as part of the LASALLE graduation show, featuring the graduates of the 3rd year Acting BA Program. 2 years later today, Tze Chien's play returns with a brand new cast and staging; the script still resonates strongly with today's social-political unrests playing out in countries all around the world.
