The Hollywood Bowl's production of HAIRSPRAY reunites original Broadway stars Harvey Fierstein and Marissa Jaret Winokur. Both Fierstein and Winokur, playing mother Edna Turnblad and daughter Tracy Turnblad, were awarded Tony Awards for best leading actor in a musical and best leading actress in a musical respectively for their appearances in HAIRSPRAY on Broadway. This is the first time that they have performed these roles together in Los Angeles; this is also Fierstein's Hollywood Bowl debut.

The award-winning York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) hosted its 19th Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre on Monday, November 22, 2010, honoring Tony Award-winning librettist Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray, Elf). The evening was directed by Tony-winning director/lyricist/librettist Richard Maltby and the award was presented by Alice Hammerstein Mathias, daughter of Oscar Hammerstein II.

Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit, ELF features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone). ELF is directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Casey Nicholaw (The Drowsy Chaperone, Monty Python's Spamalot). ELF opened on Sunday, November 14th at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street). The production will play a limited engagement for the holiday season through Sunday, January 2nd. The producers of 'HAIRSPRAY' have announced that Phill Jupitus, Belinda Carlisle and Sharon D Clarke have all signed to join the cast of the hit musical, currently running at London's Shaftesbury Theatre. The new cast open on Monday 26 October, with Sunday performances beginning on Sunday 8 November.

Marrisa Jaret Winokur returned to her Tony Award-winning performance as Tracy Turnbladon Tuesday, December 9th. She will play Tracy straight through to the final performance on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Broadway's Neil SimonTheatre.

On Thursday, September 11th 2008 the cast of HAIRSPRAY had two very special guests: Olympic all-around gold medalist Nastia Liukin and Original and Final cast member of RENT, Gwen Stewart. BroadwayWorld.com's cameras were backstage to capture the moment.

Shannon Durig who stars as Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway hit Hairspray, celebrated a tremendous career achievement her 1,000th performance on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre.

Michael Ball, Mel Smith and newcomer Leanne Jones will star in the multi-award winning musical Hairspray, which will open at the Shaftesbury Theatre on Tuesday, October 30, following previews from October 11.

Five years after opening on Broadway, Hairspray will finally bring the best to the West End.
