Following sell-out performances in 2013, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's acclaimed production of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, adapted for the stage by Simon Reade, returns this year to close the 2016 Summer Season ahead of a major UK Tour in September. Opening at the Churchill Theatre, Bromley, the tour will then visit Norwich, Cambridge, Salford, Leicester, Woking, Truro, Birmingham and Richmond, with further dates in 2017.
Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Machinal, starring Rebecca Hall, written by Sophie Treadwell and directed by Lyndsey Turner, began previews on December 20, 2013 ahead of an official opening on January 16, 2014 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway. Disney's award-winning musical THE LION KING received its official premiere at Birmingham Hippodrome on Thursday, 4th July. The performance was greeted by an enthusiastic standing ovation from the capacity audience. THE LION KING will continue its season at Birmingham Hippodrome until Saturday 28th September, before transferring to the Edinburgh Playhouse for its Scottish Premiere. The lovely Emily Swallow plays Flo in new work, NICE FISH, by Mark Rylance & Louis Jenkins, at Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater through May 18. In celebration of the fifteenth anniversary of Broadway's landmark musical event The Lion King, cast members Alton Fitzgerald White, Chondra La-Tease Profit and Lindiwe Dlamini 'flipped the switch' and lit the world-famous Empire State Building's tower lights with the signature color of the production.
