As BroadwayWorld sadly reported yesterday, stage star Phyllis Newman passed away yesterday, September 15, at the age of 86. Newman got her start in show business at 4 years old imitating Carmen Miranda in theatres and clubs. Her portrayal of Martha Vail in the Jule Styne/Comden and Green musical Subways Are For Sleeping - costumed only in a bath towel - earned her a Tony Award. Her other Broadway credits include Bells Are Ringing, The Apple Tree, On the Town, The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Awake and Sing, Wish You Were Here, First Impressions, and her one-woman musical The Madwoman of Central Park West, which she co-authored with Arthur Laurents. She garnered a Tony Award nomination for her highly-acclaimed performance in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound.

As BroadwayWorld reported last week,Â Joseph Masteroff, the Tony-winning librettist of the international musical classics, Cabaret and She Loves Me, died on September 28th 2018 at the Actors Fund Home in Engelwood, New Jersey. He was 98 years old.

Unknown painter Nora Baker in 2016Â visits the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where things quickly getÂ weird. From New YorkÂ she travels to an artist's studio in southern France in 1900. Nora desperately wants to get back to 2016 but Paul Cezanne, another obscure artist with his own problems, is not being helpful. Also ensnared in Nora's crisis are an art historian from Utah and Cezanne's gardener.

American Dance Machine for the 21st Century (ADM21) returns to New York City's Joyce Theater (175 Eighth Avenue), playing through Sunday, January 3rd. Nikki Feirt Atkins is Founder and Producing Artistic Director of ADM21. Directed by Tony AwardÂ winner Wayne Cilento (Wicked, Sweet Charity revival, Aida, The Who's Tommy), this year's program includes theatre dances from 'Broadway and Beyond' with live music provided by musical director Eugene Gwozdz. Broadway actors from 'Jersey Boys' -- Joseph Leo Bwarie, Richard Blake and Miles Aubrey -- along with Preston Truman Boyd from 'On the 20th Century' performed for party guests and enjoyed Carmine's classic Italian favorites.
