Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to the critically-acclaimed production of East Texas Hot Links, written by Eugene Lee and directed by Ron OJ Parson. The show, which started performances on October 19, 2016 now runs through January 29, 2017 in The Gillian Theatre: 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe. Thieves tells the story of a dysfunctional family in East Texas that descends into chaos when their matriarch dies. Rising Phoenix Repertory and Weathervane Productions have commissioned new plays from three female playwrights, which will each be produced over the next two seasons. Rising Phoenix Repertory's artistic director, Daniel Talbott, will direct all three plays. The first of the commissions onstage is Thieves by Charlotte Miller, making its world premiere at the Monroe Forum Theatre in North Hollywood, California, March 18, 2015 through April 4, 2015, co-produced by Rising Phoenix Repertory, Weathervane Productions and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. THE MAN-MADE ROCK, a dramatic comedy, which will run through December 16 at the 4th Street Theatre, is set in Texas and written by Justin Adams. Featuring direction from Matt Dickson (who just finished a run in Lincoln Center's War Horse and also appeared in all three parts of The Coast of Utopia), the cast will feature Broadway veterans Martin LaPlatney (the original Broadway cast of Amadeus, Roundabout's recent The Road to Mecca) and Stephen Bradbury (Dividing the Estate, the original cast of A Few Good Men on Broadway) alongside Blake DeLong, David Marantz (One Life to Live, As The World Turns) and Jon Krupp. Get a first look at the production in the photos below! When a bedraggled bride is found stranded at an East Texas bus station in 1942, the determined ladies of the Eufala Springs Garden Club leap into action! Lemonade, wedding cake and a gown are easy enough to come by... but where's the groom? This side-splitting comedy overflows with love, laughter and Southern hospitality at its best! Wedding Belles was written by Alan Bailey and Ronnie Claire Edwards. Directed by associate artistic director Karen Lund, Wedding Belles opens on September 24 and runs through October 23, with low-price previews on September 22 and 23, plus a pay-what-you-can performance on September 29.
