In 1983, a three-act groundbreaking work, Torch Song Trilogy, was one of the big winners on Tony night, picking up awards for Best Play and Best Leading Actor in a play for it's author and leading man, then-newcomer Harvey Fierstein.

25 years after the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical production of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic children's story The Secret Garden, the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) and the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle co-presents the timeless tale from November 15-December 31 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). Paper Mill Playhouse presents this year's holiday show, A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL, based on the popular 1983 film. A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL has a book by Joseph Robinette with music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL will be directed by Brandon Ivie and choreographed by Mara Newbery Greer. A CHRISTMAS STORY: THE MUSICAL will run eight times a week at the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from tonight, November 25, 2015, through January 3, 2016. For the first time since 1983 with LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, an Off-Broadway musical, HAMILTON, has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical! The 60th Annual Drama Desk awards took place Sunday night, Sunday, May 31st at 8pm at The Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street). In a recent interview with CNN Barbra Streisand spoke about women directors in Hollywood and why she believes they still do not enjoy the same success as their male counterparts. 'I just don't think they've come far enough,' says the Academy Award winner. 'Women still get paid seventy seven cents on the dollar and we're not really equal yet.' FLASHDANCE - THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 smash hit movie that defined a generation, will arrive on Broadway in August 2013 with a theater, dates and casting to be announced. As previously announced, FLASHDANCE will launch a separate national touring company in January 2013 at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, the steel town that serves as the musical's setting, and will continue to play over 25 markets in North America.
