Mud and Drowning

Mabou Mines and Weathervane Productions, in association with Philip Glass’ Days and Nights Festival, will present a return engagement of their acclaimed revival of Mud/Drowning, two intimate works by legendary playwright and director María Irene Fornés.

Mabou Mines, the esteemed experimental theater company, and Weathervane Productions, in association with Philip Glass' Days and Nights Festival, add free documentary film screening and Promenade concert performance, and announce complete casting for a unique upcoming celebration of legendary playwright and director María Irene Fornés. The February 21-March 7 engagement centers on the New York premiere of Philip Glass' transformation of her five-page play Drowning into an opera and a version of Fornés' acclaimed Mud. JoAnne Akalaitis directs these two intimate productions-both with new music composed by Glass-at Mabou Mines (150 First Avenue).

Cutting Ball Theater continues its 17th season with the World Premiere of ONDINE by Katharine Sherman. Cutting Ball founding Artistic Director Rob Melrose helms this beautifully tragic dream, featuring Molly Benson, Marilet Martinez, Danielle O'Hare, Kenny Toll, and Jessica Waldman. San Francisco's cutting-edge Cutting Ball Theater announces that the company has been awarded a grant for $150,000 from the Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation to produce all five of playwright August Strindberg's Chamber Plays, in new translations by Paul Walsh, in a festival entitled Strindberg Cycle: The Chamber Plays in Rep. Cutting Ball Theater's Strindberg Cycle: The Chamber Plays in Rep will debut in October of 2012 with full productions of all five plays running in repertory through November 2012

Producers Jed Bernstein and Adam Zotovich announced today that Tony Award-winners James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave will return to the New York stage this Fall to star opposite one another in the Broadway Premiere of Alfred Uhry‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy. Directed by David Esbjornson (The Goat, Or Who Is Sylvia?), Driving Miss Daisy will begin performances on October 7, 2010, at the John Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street), with an official opening on Monday, October 25, 2010.
