The New York Virtuoso Singers conducted by Harold Rosenbaum present American Invention on Sunday, February 19, 2023 featuring vibrant American choral music from the 18th century to today.

Acclaimed soloist Vladimir Khomyakov, who has performed with orchestras worldwide, joins the West Valley Symphony for its 2021-2022 season-opening performance at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21 at The Vista Center for the Arts, 15660 N. Parkway Place in Surprise.

There is a lot to like packed into this production directed by Randal Myler. The action is well paced and well-staged. The use of turntables, tiering, and scrims are particularly effective elements of the scenic design by Tim Mackabee. The choreography by Brian Reeder, and costumes designed by Leon Dobkowski present a feast for the eyes. The entire 19-members of the cast deliver in acting, singing, and dancing. It would be an oversight not to call out the performance of Richard Crandle. His portrayal of Little Richard is brassy, sassy, and all kinds of Woooooooo. The audience is noticeably energized when Crandle is on stage and few wish he would 'shet-up' as if that were even remotely possible.

Summer is on its way out, but Connecticut theaters are heating up with some exciting offerings this fall. Theater lovers have the best of both worlds here in the Nutmeg State: Broadway is just down the road, but we never even have to leave home to see exceptional theater thanks to the bevy of professional theaters that call Connecticut home too. This season looks particularly exciting and I'll share with you what I am most looking forward to reviewing this fall. There are other great shows scheduled this fall as well as through the 2016 season, but in the interest of space, I will concentrate on top picks for this fall.

There is, of course, lots of laughter but also poignant moments about the elder Lemmon's total preoccupation with his career, to the detriment of his satellite family's relationship with him.

METROPOLITAN KLEZMER – hailed as “one of the finest American Klezmer Bands” by Songlines Magazine – continues to celebrate the holiday with the release of their fifth CD MAZEL MEANS GOOD LUCK. The record features the special Hanukah-inspired track “Guys & Dolls & Bagels”: an inspired klezmer medley from the classic musical.

METROPOLITAN KLEZMER – hailed as “one of the finest American Klezmer Bands” by Songlines Magazine – will continue to celebrate the holiday with the release of their fifth CD MAZEL MEANS GOOD LUCK. The acclaimed octet will play selections from the new recording, called “one of the best albums of 2014” by New York Music Daily, at two upcoming concerts. Back from its seven-concert tour in South America, the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal will be playing Mahler's Fifth Symphony in May under the direction of conductor David Zinman. For the Mahler concert, the OSM will also be hosting pianist Stephen Kovacevich in Mozart's Concerto No. 18, K. 456, 'Paradis.' The Orchestra will wind up its 79th season with a performance of Honegger's grand-scale oratorio Jeanne d'Arc au bucher (Joan of Arc at the Stake)with Carole Bouquet and Guy Nadon under Kent Nagano.
