Dog Days Theatre begins its second season with Joe Orton's farce What the Butler Saw, playing July 12 through 29 in the Cook Theatre at FSU Center for Performing Arts in Sarasota. Single tickets are $30, or a season ticket package-paired with Dog Days Theatre's August production of The Turn of the Screw-is available for $55. What the Butler Saw is made possible with support from The Observer, Sarasota County Tourist Development Tax Services, The Exchange, and WUSF Public Media, and is presented by FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training.

The award-winning Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company's production of Eugene O'Neill' 'Ah, Wilderness!' continues to delight audiences. This large-cast comedy from 1933 originally starred George M. Cohan in the role of Nat Miller, and Will Rogers played the role on the road the following year. Nat is the editor of a newspaper in a Connecticut town in 1906, with a devoted wife and several children going through different phases of 'growing pains.' Mark Lazar, who was in ELTC's 'Zorro!,' is portraying this iconic role.

Emma Palzere-Rae is currently playing Essie Miller, a savvy wife and mother in a Connecticut town in 1906. She's a loving wife to Nat, a newspaper owner, an understanding sister to Sid, who has trouble keeping a job, and a concerned mother for her children, ages teenage on up. Emma herself lives in southeastern Connecticut with her husband and two sons.

For those who didn't have the opportunity to meet the cast of fourteen in East Lynne Theater Company's 'Ah, Wilderness!' at the after-show party at The Merion Inn, another chance is to be had on Friday, August 4 at an after-show Q&A. It's a wonderful opportunity for patrons to ask the actors and director such questions as how characters are created, what goes into selecting a season of plays, and where they have previously worked. Actors in this production have a variety of backgrounds, including performing in regional theater, film and on Broadway, and are ages 12 on up.

Artistic Director Molly Smith tackles a unique, in-the-round staging of Bertolt Brecht's powerhouse anti-war play Mother Courage and Her Children at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Iconic stage and screen actress and Academy Award nominee Kathleen Turner returns to Arena Stage following her sold-out run of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins to make her professional singing debut as the tough-as-nails matriarch Mother Courage-a single mother determined to keep her family alive and her business afloat during war. Using the David Hare translation, the show fuses politics and satire to paint an unforgettable and provocative portrait of war, incorporating more than 10 pieces of original music composed in a rollicking, gypsy-punk style and performed by cast members doubling as musicians. Mother Courage and Her Children runs January 31-March 9, 2014 in the Fichandler Stage.
