It has been said that the best sportscaster is the one you grew up hearing. College sports fans know that following a team means being part of its culture. They know the history, the team colors dotting the arena seats, and the scent wafting from tailgaters' grills. Equally important, however, are the sounds of the crowd and the voice calling the games. The announcer's voice which leaves fans—wherever they might be—perched at the edge of their seats is inextricably linked with his team, like Notre Dame's Tony Roberts or the legendary Harry Caray of the Chicago Cubs. They maintain a bond of trust with fans while propelling them into the throes of victory or softening the blows of defeat.

If you had the chance to apologize for something you did that ruined another person's life would you? What if that thing was part of what you were expected to do for your job? Winning a Pulitzer Prize in 1988 and the Oscar for Best Picture in 1989, "Driving Miss Daisy" is opening at the Alhambra Theatre on February 5. Appropriate for a play of such esteem, the Alhambra has brought in not one, as has been its custom of late, but two stars to carry the show: four-time Emmy Award Winner, Michael Learned will star as Daisy Werthan and Lance Nichols, star of the HBO series TREME, as her chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn. This will be the fourth time Learned and Nichols will star together in "Driving Miss Daisy." Rounding out the three-person cast is Michael Edward Hodge, a New York actor who plays Daisy's son, Boolie Werthan.

As presented in its current iteration, the current national tour of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, for the most part, remains a genuinely entertaining enterprise--a cheeky farce filled with super silly situations, wildly outrageous characters, a witty book by Harvey Fierstein, and a memorable Jerry Herman score. But fairly enjoyable as it is, it lacks a bit of the glitz and glamour one has come to expect. Luckily, it's got a powerhouse star in Christopher Sieber that makes the show absolutely worth seeing. The Tony-winning revival continues at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa through August 5.
