The third play in MALIBU PLAYHOUSE's 2013-2014 season will be The Vortex by Noel Coward, opening Friday, April 11, 2014. The play will be directed by Artistic Director Gene Franklin Smith and stars Shannon Holt and Craig Robert Young. This just in! New York City Center's acclaimed Encores! Off-Center series, under the artistic direction of Jeanine Tesori, will return this summer for a second season of landmark Off-Broadway musicals. The season opens with Jonathan Larson's tick, tick… BOOM!, June 25 - 28, starring Lin-Manuel Miranda and Karen Olivo, directed by Oliver Butler, and continues with a one-night only performance of Randy Newman'sFaust: The Concert, with Randy Newman as the Devil, directed by Thomas Kail, on July 1. Pump Boys and Dinettes, withbook, music and lyrics by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann , directed by Lear deBessonet and choreographed by Danny Mefford, wraps up the season, running July 16 - 19. Profiles Theatre announces that actor Paul Dillon returns to the role he originated in the 1992 world premiere of Hellcab by Will Kern for Profiles' holiday season revival of their hit production. Once again, Profiles Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox returns to direct a cast of 34 with Dillon joining the cast as the beleaguered cab driver and ensemble member Eric Burgher assistant directing. A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, presents a free reading of Ferenc Molnar's Liliom, the play upon which the popular 1950's musical Carousel was based. Apollo Dukakis, a resident artist with the company, directs the piece, using the Benjamin F. Glazer translation, with a cast of sixteen portraying multiple roles. Admission for the reading is free. This reading takes place during the run of The Guardsman, another well-known work by Ferenc Molnar, at A Noise Within, now playing through November 30.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Robin Weigert (Sons of Anarchy) has joined the cast of Edward Zwick's PAWN SACRIFICE. The actress will play previously announced star Tobey Maguire's off-beat mother Regina in the biopic of legendary American chess champion Bobby Fischer.

Schmoes Knows, who scooped the recent Tim Burton/BEETLEJUICE sequel news last week, claims that sources have confirmed that Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones are finalizing their deals to lead Edgar Wright's upcoming film, following Henry Pym, 'a brilliant scientist who invented a substance that allowed him to change his size.' Jones would play Janet Van Dyne, later known as The Wasp.

Audra McDonald is in the midst of promoting her latest album, 'Go Back Home', and concert tour, which is currently playing in Los Angeles, but she won't be in California for long. According to the LA Times the five-time Tony winner will be heading back to Broadway soon.
