Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) opens the nomination process for The Zelda Fichandler Award on May 14, 2014. This award presents an unrestricted grant of $5000 to an outstanding director or choreographer making an exceptional contribution to the national arts landscape through theatre work in a region. In 2014, the award will honor achievement in the Eastern region, comprised of Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia.

The Rachel Rosenthal Company (RRC) presents Instant Fairy Tales, a brand new series of original fairy tales for the 21st century at Espace DbD in Los Angeles. Instant Fairy Tales: The Longest Winter, the series' inaugural offering, which features an allegorical tale about learning to care for the environment, will be held on Saturdays, January 25 and February 8, as well as Sundays, January 26 and February 9, 2014. The performances, by Rachel Rosenthal Company's TOHUBOHU! Extreme Theatre Ensemble, begin at 4:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturdays, as well as at 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Sundays. At Saturday's grand opening of Chance Theater's Bold New Home, Wylie Aitken, a major arts supporter and chair of the California Arts Council, announced that he has made a $250,000 contribution to name the new home of the Chance after his lovely wife, Bette Aitken. The new name will be the Bette Aitken Theater Arts Center. The official dedication ceremony will be scheduled soon.
