In 1994, Bette Midler returned to New York after nearly 20 years in Los Angeles, and started the New York Restoration Project, a non-profit organization devoted to bringing abandoned and neglected parks, gardens, and open spaces in all five boroughs back to life. NYRP includes the beautiful New Leaf Cafe in Fort Tryon Park as part of its success, and is committed to helping restore parks and gardens devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The organization just held its 13th Annual Spring Picnic and you can check out full coverage below!

Noel Coward's THE VORTEX Opens 4/11 at Malibu Playhouse

The third play in MALIBU PLAYHOUSE's 2013-2014 season will be The Vortex by Noel Coward, opening Friday, April 11, 2014. The play will be directed by Artistic Director Gene Franklin Smith and stars Shannon Holt and Craig Robert Young. Tickets are $30, and may be purchased through the box office, online at http://www.malibuplayhouse.org or by calling 323-960-7711. There will be previews on April 9th and 10th for $20. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. The Geffen Playhouse opened individual ticket sales last Friday, November 8, with prices ranging from $87 to $397. The cheapeast are already sold out.

Bette Midler just finished a Broadway run in I'LL EAT YOU LAST, starring as the legendary Hollywood agent Sue Mengers - her first Broadway appearance in almost 40 years. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Midler revealed that the play might have a life after Broadway. Midler told NYT: 'We're in talks to bring it to L.A., which would be fun, because it'd be near my house and Sue's house.'

Trinity Repertory Company previously announced that three local Rhode Island residents would be receiving Pell Awards this year in addition to Kate Burton, the recipient of the 2013 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The 17th annual Pell Awards will be held tonight, June 10, 2013 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library.
