Jean Cheever and Tom Polum, producers of The Toxic Avenger - named the 'Best New Off-Broadway Musical' by the Outer Critics Circle - announce a new hire in the town library of Tromaville, New Jersey! Celina Carvajal will assume the role of Sarah, the sexy, blind librarian on Monday, June 15th. Original cast member Sara Chase is leaving the production to create three roles in the musical The First Wives Club premiering at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.

The KNF Co announces the World Premiere of BIRD HOUSE, an impossible new play written by Kate Marks. BIRD HOUSE will run for 12 performances from July 10th through July 26th at Theater 3, 311 West 43rd Street, 3rd Floor, New York City. Heidi Handelsman directs a cast of six including Ora Fruchter, Kylie Goldstein, Wendy Scharfman, Christina Shipp, Anthony Wills Jr., and Cotton Wright.

Variety reports that the Broadway-bound musical MEMPHIS has nabbed the Shubert Theater for its fall run, with a group sales announcement indicating the show will begin previews on September 23rd, 2009. The official announcement about a theatre location or for exact preview and opening dates has been made as of yet.

The Toxic Avenger, based on the cult-film favorite by Lloyd Kaufman and Troma Studios, is fast-tracking the production of its highly anticipated cast recording to be available in time for the show's opening night in New York City (Monday, April 6th). Therefore, the cast took a break from rehearsal to hit the Avatar recording studios and laid down final tracks of the David Bryan/Joe DiPietro score. It was announced today that MEMPHIS, a new musical about the birth of rock 'n' roll in the turbulent 50s which recently played a critically acclaimed and sold-out engagement at Seattle?s 5th Avenue Theatre, is aiming to open on Broadway in the fall of 2009. Based on a concept by George W. George (producer of the Tony nominated Bedroom Farce & film: My Dinner With Andre), MEMPHIS features a book & lyrics by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change), and music & lyrics by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan, in his Broadway debut. The new musical is directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley (Xanadu) and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys).
