Berkeley Repertory Theatre kicks off its 46th season this September with Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play. The hilarious Broadway blockbuster from three-time Obie Award-winner Christopher Durang begins previews in the Roda Theatre on September 20, opens September 25, and runs through October 20. Durang, the renowned author of rollicking comedies such as Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All for You and The Marriage of Bette & Boo, turns Chekhov on his head with this witty and incisive farce. In bucolic Bucks County, Vanya and Sonia fritter their lives away in their family's farmhouse amid regret, angst, and the alarming prophecies of an addled housecleaner. Enter their sister Masha, a self-absorbed movie star with her prized boy toy Spike, and the stage is set for an absurd weekend of hilarity and global warming. Acclaimed director Richard E.T. White returns to Berkeley Rep to stage the laugh-inducing Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, a loving homage to Chekhov's themes of heartbreak and hope.

Debbie Davies Band will perform at Bridge Street Live tonight, August 16, 2013 at 9:00 PM.
by Kristin Salaky - Aug 6, 2013
Davies rise to the upper echelon of blues music started at an early age as she absorbed the music heard constantly in her home. Her (professional) musician parents were either sitting at the piano or spinning discs on their turntable, filling the air with the sounds of big band jazz, harmony vocal groups, or the pop icons of the day. But the young Davies was particularly attracted to the bluesier sounds of her father's Ray Charles records, and by the age of 12 realized that her affinity for an instrument was not for the piano, but for the guitar.

The undisputed giant of English pantomime, Kenneth Alan Taylor will don his frock of questionable taste for one last time as he stars in this year's Nottingham Playhouse panto. It was in 1983 when the dame of all dames first squeezed into an over-tight corset, slapped on the rouge and exploded on to the stage for his very first appearance, with Jack and The Beanstalk. Thirty years later he has decided to hang up his unfeasibly large bra but not before one final outing as Dame Daisy in the eagerly awaited Nottingham Christmas show with which it all began.
