The Hollywood Bowl launches its 89th season with the 2010 edition of the always-memorable Opening Night at the Hollywood Bowl and Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame Concert, Friday, June 18, at 8:30 p.m.

The Antaeus Company, L.A.'s classical theater ensemble, continues ClassicsFest 2010 with an invigorating 'summer splash' of actor-initiated workshops, readings, and special events. Audiences can choose from a veritable smorgasbord of the classics between July 6 and August 15 at the company's interim home, Deaf West Theatre in the NoHo Arts District. All readings and workshops are $10.

Rubicon Theatre Company continues its 2009-2010 Season with the Central Coast Premiere of a timely drama about a fascinating and enigmatic figure in American history. TRYING, which opens March 13 and runs through April 4th (with low-priced previews March 11 and 12), is a poignant, poetic and powerful story about a relationship between Francis Biddle, Attorney General under Roosevelt and Chief Judge at the Nuremburg trials; and Sarah, a tenacious 25-year-old woman from the Canadian plains, one of a string of secretaries Biddle's wife has hired to help him put his affairs in order at the end of his long an illustrious career. Biddle, 81, is in poor health, proud and cantankerous as he begins to confront his own mortality. Sarah, however, is also headstrong, and from her early life on the prairie has developed a strength and wisdom beyond her years. Despite the difference in ideologies and age, the two forge a friendship. The play is autobiographical in nature and is written by Joanna McClelland Glass, who worked for Biddle in the late 60s.

Opening this week at the high-flying Drury Lane Theatre, in Chicago's far western suburb of Oakbrook Terrace, is "Thoroughly Modern Millie," the 2002 Best Musical Tony winner which gave the world the career of Sutton Foster (and didn't too badly for her male co-stars Gavin Creel and Marc Kudisch). The Hollywood Bowl transforms into the world's largest movie theater when the perennially popular Sing-A-Long Sound of Music returns for the eighth time on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., with the event's signature costume parade hosted by actress-comedienne Melissa Peterman at 6 p.m.

Halloween night brings the classic German black & white horror film, Nosferatu, starring Max Schreck as the eerie Count Orlok, to Walt Disney Concert Hall. The projection of the silent movie will be accompanied by a live soundtrack performed by organist Clark Wilson on Halloween, Saturday, October 31 at 8PM.
