Boston Ballet School will present NEXT GENERATION, a one-night-only performance featuring Boston Ballet II, Graduate Program dancers, and Professional Division students in classical and contemporary works at the Citizens Opera House.
Los Angeles Ballet's eleventh season celebrates the masters and introduces LA to a new choreographer that is changing the dance landscape. The season opened with Modernists/Ballet Visionaries which features works of three icons of their time: August Bournonville, 1805-79, creator of the Danish Bournonville style of ballet, still vibrant today; George Balanchine, 1904-82, Master choreographer who transformed American dance and created modern American ballet; Aszure Barton, contemporary choreographer who is leading ballet into rich, new territory. The program includes Bournonville's Napoli Pas de Six and Tarantella, Balanchine's Stravinsky Violin Concerto and the Los Angeles Ballet Premiere of Barton's Untouched (2010).
Just in time for the holidays, The Hypocrites presents the second play of its 20th Anniversary Season, the world premiere of CINDERELLA AT THE THEATER OF POTATOES. Experience the classic fairy-tale heroine, Cinderella, in a completely new light in Andra Velis Simon's brand new musical adaptation, based on the opera Cendrillon and other compositions by Pauline Viardot-Garcia and directed by Artistic Director Sean Graney. Theater and film actress Cherie Gil ('Master Class,' 'Full Gallop') makes her Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) debut via theater director-scenic designer Loy Arcenas ('Corpus Christi,' 'Love! Valour! Compassion!') and playwright Rody Vera's ('The Merchant of Venice,' 'D' Wonder Twins of Boac') reimagining of Anton Chekhov's masterwork 'The Cherry Orchard,' now titled 'Arbol de Fuego,' a flowering tree that bears no fruit, which frames the main entrance to the nearly bankrupt estate Balay Dako in Negros Occidental, Southern Philippines, during the '70s.
