Hailed as "one of the great amateur choruses of our time (New York Today) for its "full-bodied sound and suppleness (The New York Times)," The Dessoff Choirs turns the church into a petit Paris with an all-French program that puts the spotlight on the brilliant French Impressionists of music: Marcel Dupre, Claude Debussy, Lili Boulanger, Reynaldo Hahn, Jean Langlais, and Francis Poulenc. Joined by accompanist Steven Ryan (celebrating his 20th anniversary season with Dessoff) and Dr. Raymond Nagem, Associate Organist at the Cathedral of St John the Divine, Dessoff presents a magnifique tribute to French composers and to the majeste of the organ.

The New York Philharmonic will present Beloved Friend - Tchaikovsky and His World: A Philharmonic Festival, January 24-February 11, 2017, featuring Russian-born Semyon Bychkov conducting works by Tchaikovsky as well as composers he was influenced by and whom he influenced, with piano soloists Yefim Bronfman and Kirill Gerstein.

John Eric Vining, a history buff, devoted writer and author, has completed his new book 'Cable of Fate: The Zimmermann Affair and The Great Southwestern War of 1917': a gripping and potent journey into the year of 1917. Follow along as the author explores the possibilities of what might have happened if Mexico had made an attempt to recapture the American Southwest.

Anna Netrebko will add a new role to her wide-ranging Met repertory tonight through December 3 when she sings her first company performances of the seductive, tragic heroine of Puccini's Manon Lescaut.Marcelo Álvarez makes his role debut as Manon's obsessed lover des Grieux, with Christopher Maltman stars as Manon's brother Lescaut and Brindley Sherratt as Geronte, Manon's older lover. The November 21, December 7, and December 10 performances will star Kristine Opolais as Manon, reprising a role she first sang with the company in last season's premiere of Sir Richard Eyre's staging. Marco Armiliato will conduct all performances of Manon Lescaut at the Met this season.

No Time for Comedy is unlike anything you have ever seen, I feel sure. It is funny and clever - much of the dialogue is of Jane Austen caliber - but it joyfully refuses to go any of the places you think it probably might. It is political, and pointed, but never preachy, except to call attention to the motives of those who would preach. It is at once a parody of a witty Broadway comedy of the nineteen-twenties, -thirties, and -forties, and the apotheosis of it; and a part of it also contains a convincing and fairly furious repudiation of itself. For this 1939 play seems well aware that its very style is about to be subsumed by world conflict…

The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes guest conductor Bramwell Tovey to the podium on October 15, with a concert featuring Mozart's Requiem with Providence Singers. The program also features Tchaikovsky's Francesca da Rimini. The concert is Today, October 15, at 8:00pm, with a Rush Hour concert Friday, October 14 at 6:30pm. For the first time ever, hear the RI Philharmonic and Providence Singers proclaim the genius of Mozart's deathbed composition, Requiem, as it develops swiftly and vanishes all too soon.
