The Drama League (Gabriel Shanks, Executive Director; Roger T. Danforth, Artistic Director) has announced the ten artists and theater ensembles chosen to develop new plays and musicals as part of the 2014 Artist Residency Program. The development of these works, which include two 2014 Artists In Residence, Rachel Dickstein/Ripe Time and Jeremy Bloom/Rady&Bloom, will be held at The Drama League Theater Center (32 Avenue of the Americas) in Tribeca from March-July 2014.

While the Los Angeles Zoo is best known as one of Southern California's most family-friendly destinations, it's ADULTS ONLY for 'Sex and the City Zoo,' an extraordinary Valentine's Day event celebrating romance in the animal kingdom presented by the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA) on Saturday, February 8, 2014, 5 to 7 pm, in the Zoo's Witherbee Auditorium. The lighthearted affair begins with a reception featuring tempting desserts, alluring wines and “animal walk-abouts,' which include chats with keepers and the chance to observe small animals up close. The heart of the evening opens with a performance by recording artist, musician and entertainer Whitney Hall. Following the musical performance, guests are entertained with a provocative presentation about animal mating, dating and cohabitating by Michael Dee, former Los Angeles Zoo general curator, who offers insights about relationships in the animal kingdom. “Sex and the City Zoo 5” climaxes with an intimate three-course dinner (for an additional fee) at Reggie's Bistro inside the Zoo. Proceeds from the fifth annual event, generously sponsored by Whole Foods Market West Hollywood, support GLAZA, which funds plant and animal exhibits, species conservation, capital projects, education and community outreach, and many other programs at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens..

Famed singer, actress and Broadway star Eydie Gormé has died at age 84. Spokesperson Howard Bragman said 'Legendary singer and performer Eydie Gorme passed away peacefully today at Sunrise Hospital following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her husband, son and other loved ones at the time of her death.'
In his own statement, Steve Lawrence said: 'Eydie has been my partner on stage and in life for more than 55 years. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and even more the first time I heard her sing. While my personal loss is unimaginable, the world has lost one of the greatest pop vocalists of all time.'

Just yesterday, Broadway and film veteran Eileen Brennan died at the age of 80, her publicist confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress passed away in her Burbank home on Sunday, July 28, after a battle with bladder cancer. Below, BroadwayWorld remembers the stage and screen star.
