BroadwayWorld has just learned Waitress, a new musical, will open on Broadway as part of the current 2015-2016 season.  The production will open in April 2016, with previews beginning in March 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue).  Waitress is currently playing at the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, where it runs through September 27, 2015.    

Broadway husband and wife Will Swenson and Audra McDonald recently filmed themselves singing a seemingly random duet- the theme song from the hit '70s show LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY. Check out the fun a capella performance, made for Broadway Sleepout, below!

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) and 826 Boston announce the third annual WORDplay Summer Theater and Writing Camp for children ages 11-14. Twenty-five students have been chosen by lottery to participate in the free, five-week camp from July 13 through August 14. WORDplay takes place Monday through Thursday, 1:30 - 5:30pm at 826 Boston's youth writing and tutoring center, located at 3035 Washington Street in Roxbury, MA.

The Old Globe presents William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night, directed by Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, as part of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival. STAGES St. Louis celebrates its 100th production with Smokey Joe's Cafe, from the legendary rock and roll songwriting team, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Broadway In Chicago has announced that individual tickets for the Tony Award winning Broadway Musical PIPPIN will go on sale to the public on Friday, May 29.  PIPPIN will play Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W Randolph) for two weeks only, July 29 - August 9, 2015.

Fun Home, the Award-winning new musical, has released an updated and expanded Broadway version of the cast recording today on PS Classics.

The A.R.T. won seven Elliot Norton Awards given by the Boston Theatre Critics Association honoring Boston's best theatre productions. The annual awards are named for Boston's dean of American drama critics, Elliot Norton, who died in 2003 at the age of 100, and were held last night, May 11 at the Citi Shubert Theatre.

Second Stage Theatre has announced two New York Premiere productions for its upcoming 37th season.  The season will kick off in fall 2015 with the New York Premiere production of Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews' new musical, INVISIBLE THREAD (previously titled Witness Uganda), in association with American Repertory Theater, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Pippin).  The season will continue in early 2016 with the New York premiere of Lydia R. Diamond's (Stick Fly) critically acclaimed play, SMART PEOPLE, directed by Tony Award Winner Kenny Leon (Fences, A Raisin in the Sun, Stick Fly). Two additional productions remain to be announced.

Performances are May 2, 3 and 4.

Audra McDonald performs tonight, April 29, 2015 in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. She will be joined by music director and pianist Andy Einhorn, bassist Mark Vanderpoel, and drummer Gene Lewin.
