Salem, McCarthyism, witch hunts, high-school literature, Winona Ryder… all phrases that come to mind when someone mentions the 1953 Arthur Miller play, THE CRUCIBLE.  As we enter Central Florida Community Arts' opening weekend for this classic drama, BroadwayWorld got together with Director, Donald Rupe and Actor, Jake Teixeira, to find out how CFCArts plans to bring new life to THE CRUCIBLE and make this production a success in Central Florida.

Welcome to 2016 via 1950 at The Joyce Theater, February 9-14, when a series of the late choreographer's groundbreaking works-'Tensile Involvement,' 'Gallery,' 'Mechanical Organ III,' and 'Crucible' command the stage courtesy of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, the repository of 'Nik's' greatest hits. Alberto del Saz, director of the Nikolais/Louis Foundation for Dance, selected, staged and directed the season repertory.

BroadwayWorld has just learned that Arthur Miller's THE CRUCIBLE will return to Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street) this spring. Bill Camp (as Reverend John Hale), Jim Norton (as Giles Corey), Tavi Gevinson (as Mary Warren), and Jason Butler Harner (as Reverend Samuel Parris) are among those who will join previously announced stars Ben Whishaw (as John Proctor), Sophie Okonedo (as Elizabeth Proctor), Saoirse Ronan (as Abigail Williams), and Ciaran Hinds (as Deputy-Governor Danforth).

With a raw authenticity that derives from the astute and inspired direction of Scott Johnson, the cast of Desert Foothills Theatre's production of THE CRUCIBLE gives weight and urgency to Arthur Miller's allegory.

According to a casting notice posted on Actors' Equity, Scott Rudin will be bringing a limited run revival of the Arthur Miller classic, THE CRUCIBLE, to Broadway in 2016.

Arthur Miller's 1953 play THE CRUCIBLE is a classic of the American theater, and dramatizes one of the greatest failings of the American, or rather pre-American, judicial system. During the infamous Salem witch trials of the late 17th Century, twenty people were put to death for the crime of witchcraft, following a long history of the execution of 'witches' in Europe. Arthur Miller explores the larger themes of this horrible incident through a very personal story of one affected family, making the play at once intimate and epic. Despite being over 60 years old, the themes of religious fanaticism, mob mentality, and persecution of people who are different are sadly as current as they were during the McCarthy era when the play was written. The Guthrie's grand production of this classic with a cast chock-full of talent is truly something to behold.

Today in 1964, The Crucible opened at the Belasco Theatre, where it ran for 16 performances. The Crucible is a 1952 play by the American playwright Arthur Miller. It is a dramatization of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Province of Massachusetts Bay during 1692 and 1693. It was first performed at the Martin Beck Theater on Broadway on January 22, 1953. The production won the 1953 'Best Play' Tony Award. It is a central work in the canon of American drama.

Pioneer Theatre Company's new production of THE CRUCIBLE is very well directed, acted, and designed. It is a wonderful production of a deservedly perennial classic.

Beecham directs Kate Adams (Helene), Noa Bodner (Esther), Pascale Burgess (Elzvieta), Imogen Daines (Etalina),Emma Darlow (Liesl), Holly De Jong (Schmidt), James Duke (Mengele / Kapo / Cellist / Paul), Amanda Hadingue (Alma Rose), Melanie Heslop(Marianne), Rebecca Jenkins (Varya), Kate Lynn-Evans (Mandel), Maeve O'Sullivan (Greta / Olga), Sian Phillips (Fania), Danny Scheinmann (Schmuel / Captain Heinz / Second Chess Player / First Trooper), Augustina Seymour (Paulette/ Music Captain), Christopher Staines (Commandant Kramer / 1st Chess Player / SS Guard / Kapo / Pianist) and Alexia Traverse-Healy (Mala / Tchaikowska). Completing the cast are 17 members of Sheffield People's Theatre - the theatre's intergenerational acting company from across the region.
