The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) announces the launch of the 2016 Spring Festival,Style, with more than 20 programs taking place in and around Chicago April 28-May 1. Exploring how style shapes who we are as individuals and what we value across cultures, CHF is making the bold statement, 'style matters.' 

The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) launches its 26th Fall Festival, featuring 130 events which will explore the theme of 'Citizens', today, Oct. 24, through Nov. 8, 2015 at venues across Chicago.

On Friday, November 13 at 7:30 pm, the MSM Jazz Orchestra - under the direction of Justin DiCioccio (MM '71) - is featuring jazz singing great and MSM alumna Jane Monheit (BM '99) in Jane's Way, a special concert celebrating the centennial of Frank Sinatra's birth. (The legendary crooner was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, on December 12, 1915.)

Next spring, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, Brandon Victor Dixon, and Joshua Henry will star in SHUFFLE ALONG Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, a striking new production that presents both the 1921 musical itself, and additionally details the events that catalyzed the songwriting team of Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake, and librettists F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles to create this ground-breaking work.

Seven outstanding vocalists, songwriters, and musicians born in 1915 were honored at Weill Recital Hall on Tuesday, June 9th, at 7:30 p.m., when The Mabel Mercer Foundation presented their  annual concert, "It Was A Very Good Year." Cohosted by the Foundation's artistic director KT Sullivan and the distinguished critic Rex Reed, the one-night-only event celebrated the centennial birthdays of (alphabetically) Alice Faye, Billie Holiday, Bart Howard, Edith Piaf, Frank Sinatra, Billy Strayhorn, and Cy Walter.

Next spring, Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, George C. Wolfe, and Savion Glover will team up to collaborate on SHUFFLE ALONG, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, a musical about the events that led to the creation of the groundbreaking Eubie Blake-Noble Sissle musical Shuffle Along. Starring Audra McDonald as the 1920's star Lottie Gee, directed by George C. Wolfe -- with a book written by Wolfe -- and choreographed by Savion Glover, the musical marks the first time that the writer/director and choreographer will have worked together since their 1996 hit Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk. Previews will begin Monday, March 14, 2016. Opening night is Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street).

Omaha Performing Arts presents jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson: Coming Forth By Day: A Celebration of Billie Holiday in the Kiewit Hall at the Holland Performing Arts Center tonight, March 7, at 8:00 p.m.

By audience demand, Cleveland Play House has added an extra performance of The Philadelphia Story. This special Sunday matinee performance will take place on March 1 at 3pm.

Today, Noreen Taylor, prize founder and chair of the Charles Taylor Foundation announced the 2014 RBC Taylor Prize Shortlist before a breathless, standing-room-only crowd of publishers and journalists. The following five shortlisted books were culled from 12 titles on the RBC Taylor Prize Longlist which was released in December.
