Continuity Expert Adam-Michael James Publishes THE BEWITCHED CONTINUUM
by BWW News Desk - Apr 21, 2015

Bewitched, the classic supernatural sitcom that ran from 1964 to 1972 and revolved around Darrin Stephens, a mortal man who married Samantha, a beautiful witch, is still popular five decades after its premiere - so much so, that NBC has green-lit a continuation that is slated to air later this year. For all that, Bewitched, which has legions of fans all over the world, has never had a proper reference guide. Continuity expert Adam-Michael James recently corrected this pop culture oversight by releasing The Bewitched Continuum: The Ultimate Linear Guide to the Classic TV Series. James has tackled matters of entertainment-related continuity for Hollywood studios and soapcentral.com. In The Bewitched Continuum, he tapped into that expertise to compare and contrast the 254 episodes of the series, plus explore its world of witchcraft. 'There are quite a few wonderful Bewitched books out there that cover the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show,' James points out, 'but it's the fiction and characters and magic that people really love. So my focus is on that, the storyline's overall consistencies and inconsistencies; it's meant to carry the celebration of Bewitched past its 50th anniversary and inspire people to look at the show in a fun new way.' The Bewitched Continuum has been praised by leading radio shows Pop Culture Tonight and TV Confidential, and Bewitched director Richard Michaels calls the book 'a great companion for every Bewitched fan, with insights even we didn't realize.' Chris York, son of Dick York, who played Darrin for the show's first five seasons, adds that James' offering is a 'must-read.' On top of cataloging each episode, James reveals that his 600-page book contains show photos and running totals of key Bewitched moments, as well as his concept for the finale the series never had. Noted pop culture expert Herbie J Pilato, whose literary output ranges from Bewitched Forever to Glamour, Gidgets, and the Girl Next Door, provided The Bewitched Continuum's foreword and served as James' editor. As to the enduring popularity of Bewitched, James told entertainment blog Cinephiled that 'the show got me to believe in magic - a feeling we can all have within ourselves that anything is possible.' That's a quality James did his best to pour into The Bewitched Continuum, which is available on Amazon and CreateSpace. Other works by Adam-Michael James include the musical drama The Nine Lives of L.M. Montgomery, background actor how-to Extra Extra, and Undo the Deed, a time travel story with a child abuse theme. He also enjoys writing songs and performing on stage, his favorite role being Lumière in Beauty and the Beast. James currently makes his home in Prince Edward Island, Canada, where he pens commentaries about daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful on soapcentral.com. Beware the Ides of March with 15 Shakespeare Showtunes
by Matt Tamanini - Mar 15, 2015

'If music be the food of love, play on.' Even before the invention of the musical comedy (more on that later), William Shakespeare knew the importance of music in telling stories on stage. For our March feature, my colleague Jeff Walker and I thought that instead of marking the Ides of March with songs about murder, betrayal, and fate, we would focus on the synergy between showtunes and Shakespeare.

BWW Reviews: Extraordinary Tony-Winning Revival of PIPPIN Somersaults into SoCal
by Michael L. Quintos - Oct 28, 2014

Arguably, director Diane Paulus' greatest triumph to date is the spectacular new production of PIPPIN, the 2013 Tony-winning revival of Stephen Schwartz's trippy but winsome musical about the angst-riddled but hyper-aspirational young son of King Charlemagne, and his erratic, sometimes frustrating journey of self-discovery. In her marvelously inventive, re-imagined update---now playing at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood through November 9---Paulus brilliantly orients the topsy-turvy machinations of the entire story within the canvas-lined confines of a big-top circus. Here, the over-the-top performance troupe that 'guides' our hero's search for self-fulfillment aren't merely just actors (or 'players') but are also all agile, athletic circus performers that tumble, leap, and balance themselves for our (and Pippin's) entertainment pleasure. As expected, both Pippin and the audience are equally lulled into submission.

Julien's to Auction Off Bob Hope's Military Memorabilia
by Arielle Ozery - Sep 4, 2013

Over the course of his long life, Bob Hope gave the gift of laughter to millions and millions of people. From vaudeville to Broadway, radio, films and television, he cracked the whole world up and we loved him for it. But no group loved him more than America's servicemen and women. For more than five decades, Hope took his USO show on the road over 700 times, jumping country to country - even continent to continent - to entertain the troops, make them laugh and give them a touch of home. Hope once said, “I have seen what a laugh can do. It can transform almost unbearable tears into something bearable, even hopeful.” That's exactly what he did for the troops during terrible times.
