The New York Philharmonic will soon present a semi-staged production of Kern & Hammerstein's Show Boat, November 5-8, 2014.As previously announced, the New York Philharmonic's production of Show Boat will star Christopher Fitzgerald as Frank, Norm Lewis as Joe, Alli Mauzey as Ellie, Julian Ovenden as Gaylord Ravenal,Edward Watts as Steve, Fred Willard as Cap'n Andy, NaTasha Yvette Williams as Queenie, Vanessa Williams as Julie, Jane Alexander as Parthy, Erika Henningsen as Kim, and Lauren Worsham as Magnolia. All cast members will be making their New York Philharmonic debuts in this production. As previously announced, the performances will be conducted and directed by Ted Sperling and choreographed by Randy Skinner. The 88th Annual Feast of San Gennaro, New York City's longest-running, biggest and most revered religious outdoor festival, will take place for 11 days starting Thursday, September 11 and continuing through Sunday, September 21, 2014, it was announced today by Joseph Mattone, President of Figli di San Gennaro (Children of San Gennaro), the not-for-profit community organization which has operated the Feast since 1996. The Feast is held annually on the streets of historic Little Italy, the lower Manhattan neighborhood which served as the first home in America for many thousands of Italian immigrants seeking a better life in the early years of the 20th century.

From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.

The ceremony will take place at the corner of Mulberry and Canal Streets.

For much of the 20th century, Carl Sandburg (1/6/1878 - 7/22/1967) was synonymous with the American experience, a spokesman on behalf of "the people." One of the most successful writers in the English language, Sandburg was a three-time Pulitzer Prize-winner for his poetry (Cornhuskers, 1918 and Complete Poems, 1950) and part of his six-volume Lincoln biography (Abraham Lincoln: The War Years, 1939). He was also a groundbreaking journalist, folk song collector, children's storyteller, political organizer/activist, novelist, autobiographer, and captivating performer. Yet, after his death, Sandburg's literary legacy faded and his poems, once taught in schools across America, were dismissed under the weight of massive critical attack. The new 90-minute documentary American Masters The Day Carl Sandburg Died, premiering nationally Monday, September 24 at 10 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings) to commemorate the 45th anniversary of his death, provides a dynamic examination of Sandburg's life, work and controversial legacy from a modern perspective. The film will be available on DVD September 25 through PBS Distribution.
