In Violet, it's September 4, 1964 when Violet Karl boards a bus in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, bound for Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her journey will take her across the American South during the cultural revolution of the 1960s. By 1970, civil rights, Vietnam, women's liberation, and rock and roll youth culture will have reshaped society.

OPERA America Announces Recipients of 'Opera Grants for Female Composers'

OPERA America, the national service organization for opera, is pleased to announce the first round of recipients of its new program: Opera Grants for Female Composers, made possible through the generosity of The Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation. From among the 112 eligible applicants, an independent adjudication panel selected eight composers. The recipients have each been awarded $12,500 to support the development of their compositions listed below.

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced Tony Award winner Rosemary Harris will play the role of 'Eleanor Swan' in the Off-Broadway premiere of Tom Stoppard's Indian Ink, directed by Carey Perloff. The production will begin performances on September 4 and open Sunday, September 28, 2014 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Centre for Theatre (111 West 46th Street).

All Nite Soul begins tonight, October 13 at 5 PM with Jazz Vespersand vocalist Catherine Russell honoring Carline Ray (bassist and vocalist), and goes intofull swing at 7 PM with a concert of over 80 musicians honoring Barry Harris (pianist) and Sheila Jordan (vocalist), National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters who began their musical careers in Detroit, Michigan.

Boulder Theater and Fox Theatre Partner with CITYPAK and High Sierra to Distribute 1000 Backpacks Today

Today, August 30 at 10:00 a.m. CITYPAK, led by founder Ron Kaplan, co-founder of international music booking agency Monterey International, and international adventure travel gear specialist High Sierra - with the help of local music industry leaders AEG Live Rocky Mountains, Madison House Inc., Fox Theatre, and Boulder Theater - will distribute 1000 CITYPAK backpacks at The Resource Center (1603 Walnut St. in Boulder), in partnership with the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, to those in need.
