Founded in 1972, German label Brain now commands a status and reputation among listeners and collectors all over the world that would have been unimaginable at the time. Today, it is regarded as one of the most important label outlets for German rock music of the 1970s, a genre generally referred to as krautrock, although the term hardly does justice to the range of styles covered by these groups and their records. In any case, it was coined by the English media and only became popular as an afterthought. Brain first used it in May 1974 in an advert in Musikexpress magazine for their 'Kraut Rock' compilation. The label licenced international acts and albums right from the start in order to expand its portfolio.

Bear & Co.'s newest production, Finishing the Suit, written by Lawrence Aronovtich and directed by Joel Beddows, premieres Thursday, March 2 at The Gladstone Theatre, and plays until Saturday, March 11. 

Today Nick Giles announces that he will step down as Director of Shoreditch Town Hall, leaving at the end of March after five and a half years leading the organisation.  He will take a break before pursuing new consulting and leadership opportunities in the arts and third sector.  He will also remain an Associate Director and Trustee of Shoreditch Town Hall.

The Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) is pleased to announce that Padraic M. Kennedy will serve as Honorary Chair of the 20th Annual Celebration of the Arts in Howard County.  The Celebration gala will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. at the Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College. Mr. Kennedy will make opening remarks in the Smith Theatre during the 90-minute program, which will feature a special 20th anniversary edition of the Rising Star Competition.

2017 marks 30 years since Bill Kenwright's production of the international smash hit musical Blood Brothers first toured the UK. In celebration, the iconic musical will visit the Belgrade Theatre Coventry from Mon 6 to Sat 11 March.

Rubicon Theatre Company celebrates Black History Month with THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND BLUES OF BESSIE SMITH, starring singer and actress Miche Braden of the original Off-Broadway production (named one of the 10 Best Off-Broadway productions of the year by the N.Y. Daily Times). Described by CBC as a, "bawdy, bluesy, boozy rollicking night out at the theatre," the show follows the life, loves and career of blues and jazz singer Bessie Smith, called the "Empress of the Blues."

With her sublime new album, 'Akua's Dance,' cellist Akua Dixon brings her sumptuous sound to the foreground on an array of material encompassing exquisite balladry, the music's deepest roots in African and African-American culture, and instrumental pieces gleaned from Dixon's opera-in-progress. Her label Akua's Music will release the new CD on February 10.

The 27th annual Donald M. Ephraim Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival will have a special pre-Festival kick-off event on Tuesday, January 10 - A Tribute to Gene Wilder, which will include a dessert reception by Starz Bakery, a live Klezmer performance and a screening of the 1979 hit comedy The Frisco Kid, starring Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford. This special tribute will be held at 6 pm at the Mandel JCC, 5221 Hood Road in Palm Beach Gardens.

Due to popular pre-sale demand, Aurora Theatre Company announces that it will add an additional week of performances for THE REAL THING, Tom Stoppard's (The Coast of Utopia, Arcadia, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) timeless comedy about an all-too-witty playwright who succumbs to the emotional ravages he puts his characters through. Timothy Near ("Master Harold"…and the boys) returns to Aurora to helm this Tony Award-winner for Best Play (1984) and Best Revival of a Play (2000), featuring Elijah Alexander, Liz Sklar, Carrie Paff (This Is How It Goes, A Delicate Balance, Collapse),Tommy Gorrebeeck (The Monster-Builder, The Eccentricities of a Nightingale), Seann Gallagher, and Emily Radosevich. THE REAL THING now plays through March 5th (added performances: Tuesday, February 28, 7pm; Wednesday, March 1, 8pm; Thursday, March 2, 8pm; Friday, March 3, 8pm; Saturday, March 4, 8pm; Sunday, March 5, 2pm, 7pm) at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. Walnut Street Theatre's 2016-2017 Independence Studio on 3 season continues with one of Neil Simon's funniest plays, Last of the Red Hot Lovers. Philadelphia audiences will be the first to see this production before it becomes the seventh national tour of a Walnut Street Theatre production. Directed by Adam Immerwahr, Last of the Red Hot Lovers begins previews in Philadelphia on January 10th, opens January 12th and continues through February 5th. This production is part of a double feature of Simon's work at the Walnut, as Laughter on the 23rd Floor will begin performances the on the Mainstage on January 17th.

Palm Beach Gardens will add live theatre to its ever-growing cultural landscape when the PGA Arts Center opens its doors in late January.  Veteran producers Philip Roger Roy and Dana Matthow have taken a multi-year lease on the PGA Cinemas, located at 4076 PGA Boulevard in Palm Beach Gardens, and are in the process of converting two of the building's six auditoria to accommodate live productions. The two theatres will seat 260 and 280 patrons respectively.  They plan to adapt a third space - which will seat approximately 160, and be available for rentals - within the next year.
